After a promising opening draw against Viking (0-0), Sunday afternoon’s trip to B36 represented a much sterner test for AB. Indeed, this was to be a long afternoon featuring limited chances for AB, with a 3-0 scoreline reflecting a case of “damage limitation”.
With the odds firmly stacked against AB (14/1 outsiders in advance of the game), this was always going to be a challenging fixture.
However, our adopted claret and blue side couldn’t have got off to a worse start, conceding a comical own goal inside the opening ten minutes.

Unfortunately it’s an own goal😬

Sørin Samuelsen was the offender, inexplicably opting to attempt a clearance with his right foot. Goalkeeper Eydsteinsson was helpless to stock the sliced effort as the ball deflected into the bottom corner. Not a good start.
After this it felt as though AB were chasing shadows, with the midfield struggling to impose itself upon the opposition.
With the midfield battle lost, a second seemed inevitable.
B36’s second goal came just seven minutes later courtesy of Arni Frederiksberg. The match had the makings of an incredibly long afternoon with barely a quarter of an hour gone.
There were, however, positives. AB had rocked badly in the opening stages but found some composure to see out the remainder of the half.
This carried through into the second period and included a tantalising opportunity for a poaching striker. A chance to tap home at the far post went begging:

AB were never safe though and B36 threatened frequently, exploiting the space in central midfield and routinely stretching the fullbacks.

AB though did well to stifle a number of attacks with last ditch and at times heroic defending.
An area for improvement is certainly what is done with the ball once an attack has been broken down. Time and time again possession was gifted back to B36 after hard work defending, resulting in sustained periods of pressure.
It wasn’t until the 93rd minute that B36 got their third.
Annoyingly this came following a dangerous AB attack, but it underlined how exposed the side had been all afternoon.
B36 went from the goalkeeper, straight up the pitch, exploiting AB having been on the offensive to tap home the third.
