AB, the underdogs of the Faroe Island’s Premier League, got their campaign off to a positive start against Vikingur in the last game on Saturday evening to be played (10th May 2020).
By all accounts this was a tough encounter, that despite a bright start, saw AB under pressure for most of the fixture. The visitors arrived at the Skansi Arena knowing that they had finished the 2019/2020 season a full thirty points ahead of AB.
Despite this, AB held out over 90 minutes for what could prove a valuable 0-0 draw.
A point is an excellent result in what is predicted to be a campaign spent battling the threat of relegation. Not only did Vikingur finish significantly ahead of points last term, but they also held a 50+ goal difference over AB.
Indeed, Viking narrowly missed out on Europa League qualification (5th) by goal difference, whilst AB narrowly escaped the at risk relegation places (deferred due to reserve sides winning the division below).
The Faroe Island’s suddenly captures the interest of many football fans internationally with divisons across the globe cancelled, in limbo or paused as Covid-19 continues. As such AB have been adopted by VillaUnderground.com due to their adorning fine Claret and Blue colours.
